Leanne started dancing Modern Jive in June 2004. Her passion for dance and performance was immediately evident when she won the beginner DWAS (dance with a stranger) devision of the Ceroc Australia Dance championships after only dancing a few weeks. Leanne continued to compete locally and interstate throughout 2005, taking minor places in all catagories at intermediate level. As her passion for dance grew she found hersef in the positon of teacher once again , having already been a professional swimming coach for many years her background knowledge of anatomy , physiology and biomechanics were directly integrated into her dancing and teaching life. In 2005 Leanne started dancing WCS and found that its musicality and connection were all inspiring. Leanne’s involvement with the choreography and teaching of the WCS teams routine that was performed by all the profession and celebrity dancers on Dancing With The Stars in November 2006 only continued to fuel her passion for this dance. In 2007 her passion for WCS took her overseas, to California where WCS is the state dance. Whilst in the States Leanne competed at an Intermediate level placing first in the pro- am division with Myles Munro. She attended the GSDTA ( golden state dance and teachers Association) intensive with Skippy Blair and after successfully completing the intensive and the examination process headed home with added passion to further the development of WCS within Australia. November 2007 saw Leanne establish Australian Dance Destination. Specialising in WCS and utilising the Universal Unit System as taught throughout the USA. In 2008 Leanne and her partner Nathan were asked to be part of a Pilot episode for a new dance show called Dance Alive, produced by Mindfor studios. They danced a spotlight choreographed routine, were interviewed about the dance style and were asked to teach a basic beginner class with studio audience participation. Leanne continues to compete in both Modern Jive and WCS. She is the 2008 Australian WCS Dance Champion together with Her partner Nathan Tousaint and the 2008 Advanced DWAS Ladies Ceroc Champion. |
